Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between CFP® and ChFC®?
Both cover comprehensive financial planning. The ChFC® requires more coursework (8 courses vs. the CFP® education program) and goes deeper into insurance and estate planning. The CFP® has a single comprehensive exam while the ChFC® tests after each course. The CFP® is more widely recognized by consumers.
Is the ChFC® a fiduciary?
The ChFC® designation itself does not require fiduciary duty. However, if a ChFC® works as a Registered Investment Advisor, they have fiduciary obligations under the Investment Advisers Act.
